| Welcome to the Craft Shed You can find us at our workshop / showroom on the Southern end of Katikati, on SH2 in the Bay of Plenty. At The Craft Shed we make furniture from recycled native timbers such as rimu, matai, kauri, tawa, totara and others. The timber is described as 'recycled' because it is sourced from dismantled buildings all over New Zealand. The timber might come from the old Nurses Home building in Tauranga, or an old farm shed. We even had one lot of timber from the boys toilet block at Otumoetai Primary School. That wood could tell alot of stories! The natural timbers come to us in a rough condition and is usually full of nails. The wood is then sorted and de-nailed and kept in 'building lots' before it is used in creating our furniture. With each piece of re-cycled native furniture we attach a 'certificate of authenticity' which states the type of timber used and where it originally came from. Our recycled native timber furniture is quite distinctive because of its beautiful finish. This oil and wax finish is deep and lustrous, showing the grain of the wood to its full and best advantage. Displaying the characteristic imperfections in the wood due to its previous history, our furniture is both interesting and attractive. When you buy one of our pieces the timber, the finish and its recycling history make it uniquely yours. Our website shows a sample of our recycled wood furniture, in fact we have over 120 different items that we regularly produce, including scotch-chests, TV cabinets, wineracks, dining tables, bedroom furniture, hutch dressers, stools, hall tables, serving trays, CD cupboards and towers, and more. In addition to the standard items we also make pieces to order from your designs or pictures. As a customer you will be given an obligation-free and cost-free quote which is highly competitive with any other similar workshop. We pride ourselves as having very reasonable prices. We stand by our workmanship and aim to produce the best possible product in a very timely manner. The customers' satisfaction is always our goal. Ron Cordell |
